Best mma knockouts

Nothing is more spectacular in sports than a clean knock out. Yes, we all love the highly technical mma fights where one of the athletes are dominated by a superior opponent (like BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez), or when the fighters are equals in different areas and the fight goes up, down, down, and up, giving us great transitions and display of skills. But that just doesn’t compare to the best mma knockouts, when a fight is ended in brutal fashion, and there are no doubts about who the winner is.
Over the years I have seen many of them, and some of them stand out. But ranking the best mma knockouts is difficult, or at least that is what I though until I found the video below. No doubt, in my book this is the best mma knockout of all time.
Wow, that is just weird. Not the best of fighters in the world, but some coincidence. Ok, over to some of my other favorite knockouts.
It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Fedor Emelianenko, so I have to include some of his knockouts. It seems he has been training specifically for the more spectacular punches these recent years, as his knockout ratio has increased dramatically, finishing Andrei Arlovski, Brett Rogers, and Tim Sylvia. Here are some highlights.
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski knockout
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia knockout
Ok, this wasn’t technically a knockout, but he did drop him quite hard, and Tim never recovered.
I will be adding more of the best mma knockouts as I find them online. If you have a favorite of yours, please add a comment and I will see if I can put a video up on this page.
Best MMA Fighter

I started to watch MMA not that many years ago. It started with the usual “kung fu beats all” obsession, with Jet Li as my favorite fighter (or actor I would say now, even though he has some mean technique). Not sure how I got in to mixed martial arts, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was after the Jet Li movie Cradle 2 the Grave, where several of the best mma fighters had cameo appearances. Since then I have become an addict, and have to watch each and every mma fight that I can get my hands on. The athlete I have thought was the best mma fighter has changed over the years, to where I stand on the subject today.
The first mixed martial art fighter I became a fan of was Matt Hughes. Strange to think about that today when you know what an A** hole he can be. But there was this aura of invincibility every time he stepped in to the cage. He completely dominated every opponent he had, only ending up in trouble with the Prodigy BJ Penn. I hated BJ at the time when I saw their fight (just recently became a fan), and the loss was a lot easier to get to grips with when he left the UFC. Remember, I started watching MMA about 3 years ago, long after this match, so I knew the outcome of many of the fights I watched before seeing them.
At the time, Matt Hughes was regarded as the best mma fighter pound for pound, and it wasn’t until George St. Pierre came on to the scene that he was finally outmatched again. After beating St. Pierre quite embarrassingly, a new welterweight king was born.
This leads me to the difficult notion of choosing the best mma fighter in history. If you compare these to fighter’s opposition, you will clearly see that St. Pierre has had a lot more quality competitors in the Octagon. But, the times have also changed, and the general level of mixed martial arts has increased enormously. That makes comparisons almost impossible…that is…if it were not for Fedor Emelianenko.
Yes, again I am going to give my 100% biased opinion and vote Fedor Emilianenko as the best mma fighter of all time. 0 true losses, tons of quality opponents (in his Pride days), and still an aura of invisibility that no one can match. If or when he some day loses, he will still go down as the best ever in my book, and hopefully many others as well.
Here is my top 10 list of the best mma fighters pound for pound of all times.
- Fedor Emilianenko
- Anderson Silva
- George St. Pierre
- BJ Penn
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
- Randy Couture
- Dan Henderson
- Wanderlei Silva
- Tito Ortiz
- Royce Gracie
This is my top 10 best mma fighter list as it stands today. I reserve the right to change it at any time, because as I have said many times: I AM BIASED BEYOND DOUBT! As always, I have opened for comments, so please tell me what you think about my list, and who your favorite puond for pound mma fighters are.
Brock Lesnar is back!

Just got word of the news. Brock Lesnar is back! After having to withdraw from his title defence against Shane Carwin in 2009, it was soon publized that Lesnar was suffering from a serious stomach illness. Today this was confirmed in person, and also elaborated upon by Lesnar. The dramatic details of the intestent condition were told by Lesnar to have almost taken his life. He now expects to be back for a summer title defence.
Dana White also attended this Sport Center interview, and when he was asked who Lesnar would meet he answered that the title shot goes to the winner of Mir vs. Carwin. If the winner of that match can’t make the title shot match then the winner of Nogueira vs Velasquez gets the shot. Also great news!
Let’s hope Lesnar stays healthy and that we get a great match up early summer!
Best MMA 2009

A new year is upon us and lots of events are lining up. These last couple of months we have seen some disappointing injuries of mma fighters, which has meant that they have had to withdraw from scheduled line ups. Hopefully we are past the worst, and the best mma fighters will be back for early 2010.
This doesn’t mean we haven’t had our fair share of fantastic fights lately, it just means that those who had looked forward to seeing Brock Lesnar, George St. Pierre, and several others that have fallen off the mega roosters that were planned for the last months of 2009, must wait longer.
Before looking ahead at what the new year will bring I want to take a look back at some of the stuff that happened last year, and most notably the best mma knockouts of 2009. One of the top stories was the never ending media circus between the UFC vs. “the crazy Russians”. I am not going to speculate why a deal wasn’t agreed upon other than to blatantly speculate (like everybody else) that the “crazy Russians” asked for to much and the UFC were willing to give too little. Wow, that has to be the scoop of the year….a deal fell apart because both sides were unwilling to barge on their requirements. As I said, no point in me speculating on an old story.
The sorry part is that we won’t see arguably the best mma fighter and pound for pound king in the octagon. Let me just come right out and say that I am a huge Fedor Emelianenko fan. On the one hand I would have liked to see him run through the UFC heavy weights, but on the other hand I am certain he would have had a handful if he met Brock Lesnar.
I base this claim on a couple of things. One, he had his hands full with Brett Rogers, simply because of the sheer size difference. I do not think I have ever been so nervous during a fight before, and I am certain Fedor Emelianenko was only a few punches from being TKO’d or knocked out while Brett Rogers grounded and pounded.
Before you guys kill me with comments, you have to remember that nobody can take such blows indefinitely. You also have to remember that Fedor has a near perfect record for a mma fighter, and if he keeps fighting the risk of losing just becomes bigger. Just think about it, he has NEVER truly lost a mma fight. No slip ups, no lucky punches putting him out cold, no take downs landing on his head knocking him self out. You see where I am going with this? He has not only been extremely precise and talented in the ring and cage, he has also had a bit of luck. And with a bit of “luck”, I mean he has not been unlucky.
Don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying his wins have anything to do with luck. Only that for each time he enters the ring there is a chance he will slip, and I am afraid many will deem his record diminished. So I am voting for him to put his gloves on the shelf, that way I won’t have a premature heart attack next time he fights.
Back to Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brock Lesnar, which we probably never will see, but would have probably been one of the best mma fights of all time. As much as I hate to say this, but I think Brock would take it. The reason is that Fedor isn’t that difficult to take down. Mark Coleman has done it, Hong Man Choi (albeit not intentionally), and even a much smaller Matt Linland was able to take him down. Yes, I know Lindland’s wrestling credentials, but isn’t that Lesnar guy good at wrestling too?
Ok, I am rambling here. This post was supposed to be about the best mma knockouts of 2009, but it looks like I will have to make that post some other day. I’ll just through out some candidates, and you can drop a comment for your best mma knockout of last year.
Candidate 1: Dan Henderson’s knockout of Michael Bisping. Wow, that was brutal!
Candidate 2: Aderson Sylva’s knockout of Forrest Griffen. Talk about playing cat and mouse.
Candidate 3: Fedor vs. Rogers: Ok, I am biased!
Chip in with your favourite, just leave a comment below!
Wrapping things up, 2010 will hopefully be a spectacular year for mma. With 4 of 5 champions out for the better part of last year you bet UFC will be wanting to pack some killer cards.
